#Kaoru's Inner Musing

Hi! So I have a few things I wanted to say/ask so hopefully this isn't too long or out of place or anything
Okay so first off, you always reblog and say such nice things about my art in the tags and I wanted to say I appreciate it so much, I never know what to say but like you're the backbone of the hikakao community so it feels like a seal of approval in a way haha. And your art is so amazing like, damn! I love it sm. Kaoru has been my fav character for nearly a decade so I love seeing that its not just me he has a grip on, and as an autistic person myself who loves princesses’ and specifically Cinderella… well your hc means a lot to me haha. Oh and your hanahaki fic??? I ugly cried. SO damn good like the characterizations… one of the best Hikakao fics I've read on god
So I kinda wanted to ask two things, first being if you had to choose for the other hosts to have a fav princess who would it be? Im personally very partial to Tamaki loving Belle, given the like french beauty and romanticism of it all, plus her giving herself up for the safety of a parent connection. I like the idea of him being kinda dumb and taking it as you need natural inner AND outer beauty, which he oh so obviously has in spades and that kind of nonsense. Idk I was just curious if you'd have an opinion on this as ive been giving it some thought lately. Especially on Hikaru, I think he would like a more down to earth princess that doesn't have too much frills or singing in the film, like Merida because it's the most adventurous one without character songs if you're just going off disney. But idk I feel like another princess would suit him better, I just can't think of one rn
Second was if you had any thoughts or analysis of how the maid the twins had when they were young impacted them and their development? And more importantly how it impacted them each differently? Like obviously her saying no one may ever be able to tell them apart fucked with their heads, but like idk. Ive been thinking about it. And what if they never met her, and she never said that? Would they of been less warped? I think they'd just meet someone else who they liked who couldn't tell them apart, who'd just say the same thing in a different way. But how key was her betrayal of trust during a high stakes robbery of their parent's estate to all this? Im just musing at this point lmao
Oh also less an ask but I personally hc Kaoru to dissociate and the like frequently, and how maybe them being in sync all the time in their mannerisms really helps him with his autopilot moments, and Hikaru is always ready and able to catch him up to speed on what's happening and what they just did, if its something he would care to know that is. And I hc Hikaru as bipolar, his depression just manifests really angerly instead of traditional sadness. But my point is I love the idea that they're just so used to the other that any mentally ill or neurodivergent behavior one of them does the others just like “Oh yeah Kaorus just like that. You know how it is. What do you mean you don't know anyone afraid of hairdryers? Like legit afraid? Yeah no thats just a thing. Hmm. Well you should get over it it's his fear not yours I dont see how it concerns you.” and like gets defensive if anyone tries to say it's weird lmao
Okay that was long oops I hope this wasn't out of place or weird or anything, I got excited talking about it haha. Hope all is going well!!
THIS IS SO FUCKING SWEET YES!!! I WAS DRAWING HIKAKAO RIGHT AS YOU SENT THIS ASK TOO BTW.... i was htinking like, should i post this... theres kissing..... but then i remember why it's so rewarding to do what I love <3 really and truly. I've met SO many incredibly kind, creative, and thoughtful people through hikakao it's insane. And tbh it makes me want to never stop posting about them even if it nets me hate every now and again LMAO it's just, stuff like this is irreplaceable to me. And I LOVE your art!!!!!! It's SO cute... the picture of Kaoru dressed as cinderella made me legit scream. I sent it to all my friends and showed it to my brother haha. The whole Kaoru/Cinderella headcanon is very personal to me as you can probably gather from my carriage posting. so whenever I see it I go nuts (in a good way. it not destructive).
I think it's very funny (in a good way) that you already had a special interest in princesses, esp Cinderella. For me, it's like...I can NOT look at anything Cinderella related normally anymore because I'm reminded of the carriage allegory, and yet we have Cinderella movie nights every thursday now because of me...I describe my relationship with Cinderella as "stockholm syndrome" because i legit didn't care about or really even know Cinderella before all this went down, but now she is my Worst Enemy but Best Friend and if anybody says Cinderella is mid I'm blowing up another hostage.
Also!!! Thank you so much about the fic!!! While looking back I feel like there are def things I could improve on, I do really like that fic. As somebody who's personally arospec, I have trouble writing the "feelings" of romance so I tried my best. I have other Hikakao adjacent stories I'm writing and I wanna post them here!!!
Okay, onto the questions...firstly, YES, Tamaki DOES seem like the type to love Belle. He may also enjoy Rapunzel and her whole being held captive her whole life because maybe he feels the same way with his own family situation. Haruhi strikes me as a little mermaid type, no real reason, I just get that vibe. Although Kyoya probably relates to the original fairytale of the little mermaid in some ways for sure. I actually HC Mori's favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast, so he's probably also really into Belle. As for Hani, I'm not sure...Giselle, maybe. He likes her whimsy.
Hikaru is interesting, because I feel like he's like Me in which he HATES Cinderella because he has to hear about it 24/7 but if ANYBODY said anything mean about cinderella he'd be like...you bitch...you take that BACK. Altho I have this headcanon that Hikaru's favorite princess is Alice from Alice in Wonderland (tho she really isn't a "princess") because he always liked that movie better. Kaoru would cry as a kid tho when Hikaru said he thought that movie was better so he pretended to like Cinderella more. But he doesn't. Merida tho...that's a very good choice, I can defff seeing Hikaru being a big Merida fan.
So, to the second question: it's very interesting! What stood out about that maid to Hikaru and Kaoru was the fact she was mean to them. being raised as rich and "better" than everyone else, all the maids HAD to be nice or they got fired pretty much, so to see a maid go against that status quo, to treat them honestly...that's why they liked her so much.
If anyone else had said "nobody will be able to tell you two apart", would it have hurt? sure. But it wouldn't be devastating, because they likely wouldn't care about that person's opinion. but they liked this maid, they looked up to her in a weird way. Having somebody you like and trust tell you something hurtful is way more harmful than if a stranger did it.
Now...would they be LESS twisted if it never happened? I doubt it. I mean, maybe they'd be LESS focused on looking identical, but they would still be rather cruel and mischievous, because that's how they were simply raised: they were raised being taught their actions have no consequences, because they're better than everyone else. Simple by being "Hitachiins", they had a pass to do all sorts of nasty shit to people because they were rich and powerful. Besides, canonically, their mom & dad were barely in their lives, and child neglect causes the children to act out to get attention, usually via things that would get them scolded. So, while they miiight not have been AS keen on matching had that maid never said what she did before leaving them forever, they would probably be just as mean and cruel.
To le third point: YES that is so good. Kaoru very much dissociates in my heart of hearts as well. He has days on end where he doesn't feel like he's in his own body, everything's sort of a blur, he can't remember things well...Hikaru's there for him in those moments at least.
I always saw Hikaru and Kaoru as ADHD/Autism solidarity. But bipolar is an interesting one, too. I could def see it.
Also the hairdryer thing FUCKING RELATABLE...I'd think Kaoru is "afraid" of hairdryers/thunder - just really fucking loud noises that are sudden and/or unceasing. They don't make him "cower" necessarily but like, he gets super jittery/irritated because he gets overwhelming anxiety from it. Hikaru as a kid probably didn't understand why his brother acted so strangely to certain sights/sounds/touches, and maybe at first teased him about it, but when it was clear these things actually DISTRESSED Kaoru he stopped and did everything he could to make him feel better. and if anybody makes fun of kaoru for it Hikaru beats the shit out of them.
This was super nice ;w; I love receiving long asks, asks about ouran and the twins especially. legit if you ever wanna talk about them u can send an ask or DM me you seem really nice!!

Beach House
Chapter Twenty Three - Choose Your Own Adventure
Result of previous poll: Kyoya
The hosts returned to the beach house just minutes before the masseuses arrived, only able to slip their shoes off before they heard a knock at the door. Kyoya allowed them inside and guided them towards the backyard where they previously set up a few laid-back loungers as a station.
The head masseuse counted seven loungers with her finger and rubbed her chin, confused. She whispered for her co-worker to come near and they stepped aside to quietly discuss something.
Kyoya didn’t appreciate the secrecy and joined them at a respectable distance, “Excuse me ladies but your hour will begin in five minutes. Shouldn’t you prepare your stations?”
The woman looked to him worried and shook her head, “We apologize, Mr. Ootori, but we received an order for five massages not seven.” She bit her bottom lip, expecting her customer’s sharp tongue.
However, Kyoya surprised them, even himself, when he leaned back on his right hip and framed his chin in thought. With a hint of jealousy still burning in his chest from Hikaru’s earlier stunt Kyoya wondered if he could spin this unfortunate circumstance for his benefit. There were only five masseuses, leaving him and one other host alone for an hour.
Perhaps this mistake was very fortunate after all.
Kyoya nodded and took a step backwards, “I must have been tired when I ordered your services. Carry on, Haruhi and I will step back inside.”
The women offered their sincere gratitude for his understanding with identical smiles and hurried off to unpack their lotions and oils. Meanwhile Kyoya looked for Haruhi inside.
He found her just as she stepped off the stairs. She stopped when he blocked her path in the hallway.
“Haruhi, care to join me in the den?” Kyoya offered, gesturing towards the archway to his left.
Haruhi arched an eyebrow in confusion, “I thought we were about to get a massage, did you guys change plans?”
Kyoya shook his head, “They didn’t send enough people so two of us will have to forfeit for now.”
Haruhi looked at the floor and bit her inner cheek, “To be honest I was looking forward to a massage but...” she sighed, “I’ll keep you company then.”
Kyoya smiled, hearing exactly what he hoped she’d say, and followed her into the den. Their friends were probably beginning their massages by the time they settled on the couch.
Haruhi picked up the remote and pointed it towards the TV as she asked, “Is there anything you’d like to watch senpai? Or would you rather talk?”
Kyoya gently slid the remote from her hand and replaced it on the coffee table. “I have another idea. Wait here, I’ll only be gone a moment.”
He stood up and disappeared behind the wall. Haruhi heard him climbing the stairs and knew he was heading towards his bedroom. After a few minutes he returned as promised with a small bottle in hand.
He sat down beside her, closer than before, and squeezed a quarter size of lotion into his palm, spreading it along his palms. He gestured for her hand which she hesitantly gave and he began rubbing the warm lotion into her skin.
Haruhi could only watch in silence as he circled his thumbs over her dorsal, clasped his fingers into her palm, and wrung her small hand through his cupped hands. It felt amazing to feel his slender fingers work into her soft skin. She wondered where he learned to do this but figured his wealthy lifestyle probably included many, many massages for him to pick up a few tricks.
His hands were so warm and yet so gentle and she easily lost herself in the relaxing sensation he spread through her body. Her muscles began to relax and she could even feel her eyelids beginning to droop. She almost felt like she was falling under his spell as he wordlessly caressed her.
She became so lost in his touches she didn’t catch the involuntary moan that escaped past her lips. Immediately her cheeks turned a crimson shade as she tried to jerk her hand back but Kyoya held firm.
His thumbs moved toward her wrist as he spoke quietly, “You were looking forward to a massage. It’s only fair I provide you this little service.” He smirked with pride when she eyes grew wide but relaxed her hand in his grip.
His circling thumbs began to travel up her arm until he rubbed down from her elbow. Haruhi once again slipped beneath his spell and wouldn’t dare move an inch, afraid to end this amazing experience. She had armature massages provided by her father but they were only a few squeezes on her shoulder followed by a pat on the back. This however was nothing like a few squeezes. Kyoya was almost manipulating her body and mind, luring her to sleep when she so desperately wanted to stay awake. She wondered how something so amazing could also feel so conflicting.
Haruhi was so lost in her foreign sensations she didn’t notice when his hands traveled towards her shoulder. He pulled her attention when he spoke.
“Turn around for me Haruhi.” He gently ordered.
Without hesitation she re-situated herself on the couch so her back was turned towards him. She could wonder why she was so obedient later but for right now she wanted more - wanted to feel more.
Kyoya begab kneading his fingers into her shoulder, coaxing a grumbled moan from her throat, and smiled when she didn’t react in embarrassment. His impromptu plan was unfolding beautifully but he wouldn’t promise himself the prize prematurely. At least... not yet.
He leaned in close as he applied more pressure between her shoulder blades and worked his nimble fingers along her spine and across her midsection. Her body was practically jelly beneath his touches and he felt his own composure slipping as well. To have Haruhi so unwound - so vulnerable - it made him crave her. He wanted to feel her, taste her... love her.
Kyoya leaned forward again and brushed the tip of his nose along her neck and was pleasantly surprised when she lopped her head to the side, exposing more of her skin. She was almost behaving drunk and it made him second guess his actions.
But alcohol wasn’t clouding her mind, no, he was. That realization made him dive forward and press his lips beneath her jaw.
“Kyoya...” she gasped, not moving away.
“Shh...” Kyoya whispered against her skin and kissed along her neck towards her shoulder. She tasted better than he imagined. The familiar tang of skin and sweat was present but something sweet laced his lips, a familiar scent like cherry blossoms. He figured it to be her body wash.
He wanted more. He needed more.
Carefully he introduced his tongue to her skin, barely tipping it against her neck. When he heard her sigh he became more bold and softly scooped his tongue in the crook of her neck.
Haruhi felt him kissing her - licking her - and yet his hands never paused working into her back. She couldn’t remember if she was dreaming or awake but her world seemed to be in a haze, fogged by rising hormones and growing emotions. His hands felt so good on her back but his lips...
His lips felt better.
She needed to wake up. She needed to -
“Am I interrupting something?” An angry voice sneered from the hallway.
Kyoya and Haruhi jerked at the sound and looked to see Kaoru leaning against the archway with his arms folded across his chest and sending them a dangerous frown.
Kaoru looked between the pair. Kyoya returned his angry expression while Haruhi looked at him surprised with half-lidded eyes. She almost looked like she had just woken up.
“You are.” Kyoya snarled, pausing his hands but resting them on Haruhi’s shoulders.
Kaoru deepened his frown, “Well excuse me but I-”
“You’re excused.” Kyoya interrupted, daring him to rebut with a sharp glare that could kill.
Kaoru scoffed, “I wonder how the others would react to learning about this little development,” and and turned away towards the stairs before Kyoya could argue, leaving them alone once again.
Haruhi shrugged his hands away and stood from the couch, unable to hide her damning blush. There were few times she could die from embarrassment and right not was added to her short list.
“I should begin preparing dinner but thank you for the... uh... massage.” She stammered.
It hurt Kyoya that she was too embarrassed to look at him but he understood. He was more angry than embarrassed but he still felt it and couldn’t blame her for suddenly becoming so fidgety. He nodded and watched her leave towards the kitchen.
When she was gone he slumped into the couch and ran a heavy greasy hand over his face and groaned his disappointment.
Haruhi slipped into the kitchen and pressed her back against the wall as she collected herself. Her mind was buzzing with conflicting thoughts, her chest churned under a cocktail of emotions, and her left arm still felt like jello. She had to calm herself and think rationally. She needed to gather herself and rely on logic, the one thing she did best.
While she prepared her work station on the counter she heard her bubbling friends re-enter the house, musing about their wonderful massage. She could smell the scented lotions from where she stood; wonderful lavender and lilac aromas wafted her way and graced her nose. Somehow that little act was enough to calm her nerves and she din’t question it, only thankful she wasn’t so fidgety anymore.
“You’re going to start dinner already?” Hikaru asked as he, Mistukuni, and Takashi entered the kitchen.
Haruhi nodded as she opened the refrigerator. However, looking inside she realized there weren’t many ingredients available, only a half carton of milk and few cakes for Mitsukuni.
She sighed, “We can always buy food to cook.”
Mitsukuni ran to her and stopped before her with a hop, “Or we could eat out! What would you like to do, Haru-chan?”
Should to hosts eat in or eat out? (Click to Vote)
*manically rubs hands together* I hope you enjoyed this very spicy chapter. Things are beginning to heat up! What will happen next? You decide!
This is the last day of their vacation which means tonight we will learn who wins over Haruhi! Stay tuned, our story is slowly coming to its closure.
Next update should be around 02:00pm (ETS) let’s be honest though it’ll be late. Poll will end 30 minutes prior.

STARISH Abridged Personalities
I decided to do a small breakdown of what I think I wanna do for everyone! Stuff IS subject to change so don’t absorb ALL of this XD? Stuff might change if I find/create funnier quirks or swap a couple traits around for funsies ;P
Tumblr media
OTOYA: SUPER HAPPY.ALL THE TIME. He always tries to be positive and looks at the bright side of situations even if it’s inappropriate to do so because anger and sadness aren’t emotions that exists in HIS world (till Legend Star when he breaks). Very innocent, naive, and protective of Nanami when it comes to bad subject matter, and THE most enthusiastic about music. Gets SUPER pumped about music/friendship. He will always agree with everyone on everything. He is the one prone to making the most dank/memeish jokes. Sometimes he can be TOO honest because he doesn’t really know how to lie & it can get him in crazy situations. Definitely the over-achiever of the group. Sometimes dishes out savage sarcasm or “happy-go-lucky shade”.
Tumblr media
SYO: Macho Man. He is trying really hard to compensate all the time (even tho we know he doesn’t have to) Tells OUTRAGEOUS lies about himself just to look extra badass at everything (especially in front of Nanami) Constantly chaperones Natsuki because he secretly thinks Satsuki wants to kill him or something. Sometimes he and his twin switch places when Syo is too lazy to show up to things. (In reality Kaoru & Natsuki get along SWIMMINGLY so that’s how you can tell when Syo IS Syo) Kaoru is going along with the charade due to Syo blackmailing him with embarrassing baby pics. Pink= the manliest color.
Tumblr media
NATSUKI: Jekyll and Hyde. Natsuki has a split personality, when his glasses are removed; he turns into the super violent but talented composer Satsuki. Natsuki is “kawaiisexual” if you’re remotely kawaii, he wants to BE with you. He pretends to be bad at cooking just to mess with people. He is hella nosy, kind of an instigator & Satsuki secretly loves Piyo-chan as much as Natsuki- they both discuss Piyo-chan inside their brain. The only person who can tell when Syo and Kaoru switch is Natsuki, but he pretends not to notice because he enjoys the hell outta pranks. When he finds out Cecil is secretly a cat, he wants to adopt him as a pet.
Tumblr media
REN: The walking orgasm. He lives, eats, sleeps ;) and breathes romance. Even his own saxophone 🎷 can’t resist his charms and often sounds like a woman when he plays it. He named his saxophone Seira ( wink wonk). Ren’s mother was his biggest inspiration but she died from a rare brain failure that occurs only when one dances in a spinning circular fashion like a fidget spinner. From that day on, he vowed to protect all women from harm. Ren’s only weakness is anyone being potentially sexier than him. He usually uses his money to get out of any and all undesirable situations.
Tumblr media
CECIL: Catboy Aladdin. Cecil is the magical cursed cat Prince of Agnapolis. He is sometimes on the run from being mistaken for the Nigerian Prince who offers people money on the internet. One thing he shares in common with Ren is that he sometimes bribes people with riches if he wants something. Cecil is VERY territorial when it comes to Nanami, and his jealousy knows no bounds. He can single handedly take down all the other members of STARISH but is under oath to the Muse of Music not to harm them. When Cecil is happy he purrs even in human form, this embarrasses him greatly. When angered or in a socially awkward situation- he speaks in Agnapolese .His musical talent is beyond words, when he sings everything gets turnt. And Cecil will sometimes use his magic to manipulate situations too (he does so both secretly and outwardly). The Agnadance becomes a trigger for Ren.
Tumblr media
MASATO: vERY TRADITIONAL JAPANESE MAN DESU. His father is so strict that he was forbidden to get an “English Dub Voice” and thus only speaks in Japanese (occasionally he breaks and screams out things in English). A talented pianist, Masato is shy and a bit of a “cootie-phobe” that’s why he has a hard time with any form of human contact. Masato suppresses all his inner feelings and is secretly the most lustful in STARISH but no one must ever find out or he’d die o f embarrassment, it’s also  another reason he avoids contact. Masato is lifelong rivals with Ren and they both have all kinds of tension together. He wants to be the most beloved “blue haired” bishie of the show and tries to upstage Tokiya sometimes. He has a hard time accepting things that make no logical sense so he is slightly afraid of Shining Saotome in the same way people are afraid of clowns. He secretly gossips with Natsuki all the time about everything and everyone.
Tumblr media
TOKIYA: Identity Crisis 101. Tokiya has already debuted as the HIGHLY SUGARY Idol named HAYATO. He despises his image and wants to start anew, somewhere down the line he started to confuse which reality is which & snaps when people mention HAYATO. He hates being compared to him so he pretends to be his own younger, more serious twin brother Tokiya Ichinose (which he gets a lotta flack for especially from Syo & Natsuki). His favorite place to brood is the Gazebo of Fate. Where all the magic happens. Tokiya is HIGHLY COMPETITIVE. If there is a situation where competition is involved he will go ABOVE AND BEYOND just to win. Even if he has to fight dirty. He constantly tries to give an aura of mystery but can be klutzy and EXTREMELY distracted. He is a huge workaholic...also aaaaaaaaangst.

Bookshelf Overload: November 2017
Since in a few weeks I will be retiring Experiments in Manga, this will be the final Bookshelf Overload posted here. However, I am thinking of ways that I might be able to feature some of the interesting media that I find by leveraging my Twitter account more effectively. As for the things that found their way into my home in November, I once again picked up more anime than I generally do. (Granted, two of those, Skip Beat! and Mind Game were the results of Kickstarters that I supported way back when.) November saw the release of several debuts that I was particularly excited about, including  ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Department, Volume 1 by Natsume Ono, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Omnibus 1 by Hikaru Nakamura, To Your Eternity, Volume 1 by Yoshitoki Oima (okay, technically it was released on the last day of October), as well as the Parasyte tribute anthology Neo-Parasyte M. I also recently discovered that a small publisher based out of Yokohama, Black Hook Press, is releasing gekiga manga in translation, such as Takashi Fukutani’s Dokudami Tenement. One more acquisition from November that I’d like to highlight is Denise Schroeder’s The Good Prince, Volume 1 which collects the first three chapters of that  webcomic. My introduction to Schroeder’s work was through the utterly charming comic Before You Go, so I’m happy to get my hands on more of her work in print.

I live a life of lies. I wear a mask of makeup covering a skin of deceit and envy in front of you. I add a thicker layer day after day of concealer and blush over my self-hatred, guilt and hideousness. Do I look flawless? Do I look good enough to be with you? I smile a pretty yet worthless smile. My rosy lips stretch across my pale white cheeks, disguising my rotten black interior. It doesn't matter how much blood is spilled or how much you hate me. As long as I can be with you nothing else matters.

While you laughed all day, I'd cry all night. While you regretted nothing, I looked back at everything. While you forgot everything, I remembered everything. While you fixed other hearts, I looked at mine that was torn apart. While you spent your time enjoying your life, I spent every moment longing for you to be mine.
